The course is flat and fast with a spectacular finish when the athletes, crossing the lagoon, enter the historic part of Venice and run the last three kilometers through the unique surroundings of the lagoon city, crossing the Grand Canal on a floating bridge built specifically for the marathon. The starting line is in Stra and the course follows the Brenta river, passing the ancient Venetian noble villas.
The marathon then crosses Mestre and runs for 3 kilometers through the huge San Giuliano park to enter Venice on the Libertà (of freedom) bridge. After running along St. Mark’s Square and the Doge Palace, the marathon reaches the finish line on the Riva Sette Martiri dock.
